Comprise Wins Matchyard Contest

Grant Nestor, a USC Marshall School of Business student and founder of an innovative Internet site, has won $1,000 and the opportunity to meet USC alum Mark Stevens, one of the most successful venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.

Nestor impressed the MatchYard on Facebook community with an idea that scored the highest rating among the site’s users.

The undergraduate’s Comprise site allows musicians to collaborate on audio sessions and create new music via the web. Up to now, musicians have dealt with incompatible applications.

“With Comprise, my hope is to offer a new way of utilizing technology to bring people together for a greater creative purpose,” Nestor said. “I am thrilled that the MatchYard community recognized the promise and potential of Comprise, and I am really looking forward to my meeting with Mr. Stevens.”

Grant started USC Technopreneurs, a campus organization that yields collaborations among students of the business and engineering schools. The intention of Technoprenuers is to provide entrepreneurial students with the means to shepherd their ideas through interdisciplinary networking and “intelligence meetings.”

The Technopreneurs was founded in 2006 with 55 members at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Developed by the USC Stevens Institute for Innovation, MatchYard is a Web-based Facebook application that allows students, faculty and staff to connect online.

Since the launch of MatchYard in October, more than 1,800 profiles have been created and 74 projects have been posted.
